Beam Suntory’s Black Employee Impact Group, BOLD, recently hosted a discussion about racial equity with Nikki R. Lanier, J.D., CEO of Harper Slade Racial Equity Advisory, and Mercedes Hill, Associate General Counsel and Executive Sponsor of BOLD.
Nikki shared her perspective on the relationship between race, economics and the workplace, and how understanding and advancing racial equity can ensure improved outcomes for everyone:
"We have to find a way to activate, in a fulsome way, the contributions of Black and Brown Americans as an economic imperative. There's an urgency now that, in my view, requires an equity lens... to determine what has happened to this particular group of people that continues to, as a matter of structure and as a matter of policy and has nothing to do with individual choice... usurp and thwart and diminish the full activation of the American dream such that we can now assure there is at least a level playing field for contributions to the overall macroeconomic wellbeing of this country."
